Brewery

One day soon, someone will put out a book on how to design and build a micro-brewery, on a budget. It may end up being us! It took us about 3 years to source second hand tanks, have them re-engineered, find all the suppliers of rubber bits, fittings, hatches, pumps, hoses, heat exchangers, mill, grain, yeast, hops, a red mash tun shovel, plunger, thermo-probes, etc etc etc,

Sure we got a lot of help and advice from a few friendly, existing micro-breweries, but those lucky ducks all bought complete breweries. We took the less glamorous, and less expensive path, and built our own.

Our vessels will never win a beauty contest, but they work, and work hard. We keep them busy mashing, brewing and fermenting all year round. They even have names; Cujo (the mash), Brett (the kettle), and the fermenters are Kel, Kath, Kim and the shortest one, Sharon. No clues as to where the names came from.

And we haven’t got around to building a cellar door yet. One day. So for now we just have a brewery. No coffee, no cakes, no chairs, no playground, no toilets – just a brewery. We can sell all of our fab real ales from the brewery, so if you need to stock up, or if you like looking at breweries and talking about beer then feel free to give us a call to make an appointment.

Home Brewers please note: At Red Duck we love real ales, and trying different ones, so if you’ve got an all grain brew that you are proud of, make sure you bring some when you visit us.
