RED ADMIRAL Celtic Red Ale 6.2% Alc/vol
The perfect festive ale, deep ruby red, rich malt
characters and moderately hopped with Glacier,
our Red Admiral offers hints of plums, raisins, soft
stewed fruits, and the flavours are evocative of a rich
plum pudding covered in treacle.
We think that Red Admiral will mature and improve
over the coming years, developing richer flavours and
even more balance.
INGREDIENTS
Glacier is a new American hop, which has fantastic aromas, low
co-humulones, and low alpha acids, so it adds a heap of aroma and
character without the bitterness.
We have combined traditional ale malt, caramalt, light crystal and
German carared malt to make a rich and luscious ale. In style we
have created an ale that is stronger and richer than normal Irish Red
Ales, and as we have only used a new, American hop, we are calling
this a celtic red.
BACKGROUND
Named after the Red Admiral butterfly, which is a real party animal,
always the last to leave, hangs out at the best places, and even
comes out more colourful and brighter after hibernating.
From Wikipedia:
The Vanessa Atalanta or Red Admiral is a well-known colourful
butterfly. This large butterfly is identified by its striking dark brown,
red and black wing pattern. The caterpillar feeds on nettles, and the
adult drinks from flowering plants like the Buddleia and overripe
fruit. In northern Europe, it is one of the last butterflies to be seen
before winter sets in, often feeding on the pale fire of ivy flowers on
sunny days. The Red Admiral is also known to hibernate,
re-emerging individuals showing prominently darker colourings than
first brood subjects.
